It is all about engagement!
Here is
some practical advice that I personally benefit from on how to engage with
visitors on a blog. When I use these tips and strategies, I find that my blogs
are engaging with my readers and that it creates a connection between myself
and the reader.
Blog engagement refers to
“the level of interaction between a reader and the creator of a blog”. It can
include aspects such as comments, likes, reactions, shares and more. This can
include positive and negative performance from the blog itself and how the
reader felt about the blog.
1. Clear and visually appealing design
The first piece of practical
advice is the most obvious in my opinion, making the blog clear and visually
appealing is the key to a successful read. A reader doesn’t want to click into
a blog and just be bogged down with hundreds of words on a plain page. The
blogger needs to create a visually appealing layout for readers to have a clear
understanding of the blog. Making titles stand out and in bigger fonts with a
drastic colour can make it more visually appealing.
2. Interactive elements
Creating interactive
elements in the blog can catch the readers attention such as mini quizzes,
polls or surveys to keep them engaged in the blog which can also encourage them
to revisit the blog again as they will remember reading the blog as its different
to a normal boring blog. It will also inspire them to stay and spend more time
interacting with your blog. The polls can also help the blogger improve their
blogs with the answer results from the readers.
3. Email newsletters
Creating an email
subscription list to subscribers and sending out monthly newsletters about
upcoming blogs and new content coming soon for the blog will help build a
relationship between the blogger and readers can create engagement. This is a
clever strategy for the blogger to keep their content active. It is important
not to over send emails out to readers as they can get frustrated and
unsubscribe so its best to send one out once a month so readers are not
overwhelmed with spams.
4. Using images, videos
and graphs
As normal, basic
words can distract readers from continuing on reading blog, using graphics such
as image, infographics and videos can attract an audience to the blog to
increase engagement. It is evident that visual content is way more engaging
then plain text. Even putting in GIF’s into the blog can make the read humorous
for the viewer and become a remembrance to them. This can increase the chance
of the reader sharing the blog to friends, family or even social media which
can increase views to the content.
5. Add a chat box to the homepage
This is also a great
and easy way for readers to engage with the blogger as they may have a question
to ask about a part in the blog which can be answered in real-time with a
quicker response. This can be modified instead of waiting for an e-mail or call
back as it’s a live chat or else a chatbot which is a robot typing to the query
unless they need some real-life helping. It is essential for an option on the
chat box to include the readers name, email and query so that the chat can work
as smoothly as possible.

Thanks, this was really helpful in making my blogs more engaging!
