Why companies often struggle with Information Systems implementation
Welcome back fellow bloggers, its your favourite blogger Sophie back again. This week we will look at an interesting topic. Many companies often struggle with Information Systems implementations and often look into new trends in technology to keep relevant and competitive and there are numerous reasons why they might face challenges during this process.
Training employees can be time-consuming
If companies spend weeks training employees on how to use Information Systems, employees cannot focus on their full-time career leading to loss in productivity from staff which causes low morale amongst the company putting it at risk. Even though training is time consuming, it is important to cover as the lack of training with employees can lead to errors and inabilities (Sharp, 2021).
Resistance to change
Individuals usually resist to change and like to stick to the same strategies and with the change of installing new Information Systems it can cause complexity within workflows. They may resist also for the basis if their role in the workplace is at risk of being reduced. Employees may feel unprepared to adjusting to their new routines and this can be due to reasons such as lack of training of the new IT systems making them vulnerable. If employees are concerned with the new implementations, they should address their issues to resolve them promptly (Scalzo, 2019).
Implementation costs
The implementation costs of business software can be compelling for firms as software can almost cost more then the software itself. A vivid way of avoiding this expense is to look for a seller that provides a fixed price for example selling a PC for a set price to a firm by a vendor. Information systems can cost considerable amount of capital but there are solutions for firms to not spend over their intended budget. For example, over budgeting by 20% can reinforce their monetary flexibility for required costs of the IT systems. (Zorc, 2023).
Integrating new technologies
Companies may proceed to invest in new Information Systems and software systems but in reality they could realise that they prefer the old systems and this may cause the company to lose out on costs from incompetence more than the actual cost of the new software systems causing the company disruption. The older the system is, the more likely it is to be due for replacement which the company should take into consideration. For example, a company might invest into new equipment for the firm to only regret their decision on such a high investment to turn back to their old systems routines.
